Boot Disk Floppy: A boot disk can be a life saver if Windows won't start. So make one now. These are instructions for Windows ME and Windows 98. For bootdisk info on other systems I suggest using the Microsoft KBA search function or go to Bootdisk.com where you can also download and create bootdisks of many types. To make a boot disk from your computer:
Insert a blank floppy disk
Open the Control Panel.
Double click add/remove programs.
Click on the Startup disk tab.
Follow the instructions.
When you get back to the screen where it asks to create disk click OK.

Turn off the computer.
Insert the boot disk floppy.
Turn on the computer.
Wait.... floppy drives are slow.
When you get to a screen with options use the arrow key on your keyboard.
Highlite "Without CD-ROM Support".
Press Enter on your keyboard.
Wait for it....
Next you should see a flashing curor and it will look like a>:_
Type in scanreg /restore note that there is a space after scanreg.
Use the arrow keys on your keyboard.
Choose one of the dates before you experienced a problem booting up.
If OK is highlited press Enter on your keyboard.
Otherwise use your keyboard arrows to highlite OK or Cancel.
Press enter on your keyboard.
Use your arrows and enter keys on your keyboard to complete the operation.
Remove the floppy disk from the drive.
Reboot your computer.
You have now performed a pure DOS command function. Congratulations.
