The Auto Complete function of the Internet Explorer Web Browser can be helpful or annoying. It can save you time or save information you wish to keep private. So learn how to use it to your advantage and learn how to disable some functions. Learn how to clear previously saved entries when it finally gets to annoying.
I personally despise the Web Addresses and Forms settings.
I do use the User Names and Password on Forms settings.
But passwords are dependant on cookies. If you delete your cookies only the User Name part of that function will work. Since I use a cookie manager program I can delete all the cookies but save the ones I want including any desired password cookies. Download MRU-Blaster and the plug-ins for a free, safe and good manager.
Confused about Auto Complete yet? Don't worry. It's simple to clear the functions history and change the settings and to see what each setting does. So lets begin.
Go to Control Panel. For non XP users
click Start. Click Settings. Click Control Panel.
Double click Internet Options.
Click on the Content tab at the top.
In the Personal information section click AutoComplete.
To see what each setting does click on the
? next to the X. Then move the ? to the
area you want to know more about.
Click again. Read and choose settings.
You can also clear the AutoComplete
history from here by using the Clear Forms
tab and Clear Passwords tab.
If you had AutoComplete set to save
addresses you typed in the address bar and
want to clear those, which I suggest doing,
close the AutoComplete window.
In the Internet Properties window click the
General tab. Click Clear History.
Always remember to click Apply and/or
OK whenever it is displayed.
Now wasn't that simple after all?
Please note; If you installed the Google toolbar then clearing Forms in AutoComplete will not clear previous search entries in the Google tool bar.
But they can be deleted from the Google toolbar settings.
